Ruger American Pistol
The next generation Ruger American Pistol is almost here… and its all 100% American Made in Prescott, Arizona. From intense Research and Development from today's Military Forces and Law Enforcement agencies, it is designed to meet both standards and requirements as a new duty side arm… well hopefully…. I still preferred a good’ol 1911 .45 ACP to my standard issue Beretta M9 that I was forced to carry in Afghanistan. But, lets see if yet another polymer pistol can come close…

Right away, it looks it at lease looks pretty cool. I can already say that I love the aggressive looking lines; Very “tactical” looking compared to most Ruger’s, that to my eyes, look pretty simple and generic.

But, looks have nothing to do with it! However, what makes this one so unique compared to the rest of Ruger’s line-up and the other all too common polymer pistols out on the market?

Well for one, they have a new patent-pending barrel cam that has been designed specifically to reduce felt recoil. This new design is lighter and apparently defies physics somehow so that the recoil is not felt directly all at once in the shooters hand, but instead “spread over time” (Ruger.com)… huh? One thing it does do however is that it lowers the axis of the bore. This lower bore axis helps create a lower profile into your hand, helping the shooter manage recoil and minimize upward muzzle flip; a great feature for enabling quick and accurate follow-up shots.

Another feature that Ruger decided to kick-it-up a bit on is the CNC machined stainless steel internal chassis, which is an outstanding choice over the common molded in sheet metal design. This new single-piece design makes the chassis much more durable and rigid.

Ruger has also decided to implement the interchangeable backstraps for shooters to swap out to suit their ergonomic needs, much like you already can with Smith and Wesson’s M&P line-up. Ruger gives you three to choose from in 9mm, Small, Medium, and Large, and only Medium and Large in .45 ACP.

The Ruger American Pistol will be available in 9mm with a max capacity of 17+1 and .45 ACP. with a max capacity of 10+1. – Ruger provides both options with 2 double-stacked nickel-teflon plated magazines.

Until I get one in my hand and see how well it fires… I’m still keeping my all-metal, simple safety, simple trigger, simple threat eliminating 1911 on my side. But I have high hopes from Ruger and I’m sure the Ruger American Pistol will be impressive.

Here is a list of specifications that Ruger has put out. Also, don't forget to join our mailing list to stay up to date for when it becomes available.
